Baltimore Album quilts were made in Baltimore between 1846 and 1852. Those beautiful quilts inspire me to create my Baltimore style quilt. When I think of Christmas I think of the Thomas Nast drawing of Santa. He "invented" the image popularly recognized as Santa Claus today. His Santa Claus was published for the 1862 Christmas season Harper's Weekly cover. It was both of these elements that inspired me to make my Baltimore Christmas quilt. The 24" center medallion Santa block is surrounded by twelve 12" album style blocks with holly and berry swag applique border. 70" x 70" |

| Block # 11 Oregon - The Beaver State The origin of the name Oregon is not certain one theory is the name comes from the French Canadian word “ouragan” meaning “storm” or “hurricane, or from the Spanish word “orejon” meaning “big-ear” a term that was used by many Indian tribes in the area, or from the Spanish word “orégano” for the wild sage which grows so vigorously in eastern Oregon. The Beaver State is the official state nickname. Other state symbols fill our gracefully scalloped basket: Oregon grape, Fir Tree branch, Hazelnuts, Pears, Oregon Swallowtail butterfly and Oregon Fawn Lily. |

| Block # 9 Texas - Lone Star State Perhaps one of the most recognized nicknames of any state, “The Lone Star State” comes from the symbolism of the star on the 1836 flag of the republic. The single golden star on a blue background signified Texas as an independent republic and was a reminder of the state’s struggle for independence from Mexico. The Alamo, originally known as Mission San Antonio de Valero, is a former mission and fortress compound, site of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. Other state symbols; cotton, pecans and purple sage. |

American Album Series Block #1 Massachusetts Mayflower We started our quilt from the center block asking each other what represented America’s beginnings to us. The Mayflower landing in Massachusetts just seemed to be the perfect center block for our quilt and that was how it all started. The Mayflower is surrounded with a wreath of flower and berries and tucked into the wreath the state bird Black Capped Chickadee. 15" finished block. |

Some of my best ideas come from my sewing friends. This quilt is named for Anita Peace, we have been sewing together for many years. Anita asked me if I could design a quilt with primitive angels and alternating star blocks. Well I don't think my design was what she had in mind, but she loves the quilt anyway. Six cute angels, gingerbread man, snowman, candy canes, mittens, bells and Rudolph with his nose so bright are set on applique star with embroidery pine branches. Twelve blocks with sashing finished sized 14" x 14". |
