P3-2011 Oregon - The Beaver State

Limited Edition

Block # 11 Oregon - The Beaver State

The origin of the name Oregon is not certain one theory is the name comes from the French Canadian word “ouragan” meaning “storm” or “hurricane, or from the Spanish word “orejon” meaning “big-ear” a term that was used by many Indian tribes in the area, or from the Spanish word “orégano” for the wild sage which grows so vigorously in eastern Oregon. The Beaver State is the official state nickname. Other state symbols fill our gracefully scalloped basket: Oregon grape, Fir Tree branch, Hazelnuts, Pears, Oregon Swallowtail butterfly and Oregon Fawn Lily.
